Our school hall was filled with warmth, nostalgia, and a fair share of tea and treats on Friday, June 5th, as our brilliant 2nd class hosted a spectacular Grandparents Day celebration. It was the culmination of weeks of hard work, curiosity, and bridging the gap between generations.

The Grandparents Project: Learning From the Experts

Before the big day, the 2nd class students turned into mini-historians. Each child undertook a special Grandparents Project, interviewing their own grandparents to catch a glimpse of what life was like "in the old days."

The classroom was buzzing as the children shared the fascinating stories they uncovered. The projects were packed with:

  • Living History: Incredible tales of school days in the past, old traditions, and what it was really like working out on the bog.

  • Wise Words: A treasure trove of life advice passed down from one generation to the next.

The excellent projects were brought and showcased to different classes across the school, inspiring the younger and older students alike with their findings.

Friday’s Grand Celebration

The highlight was undoubtedly Friday morning, when our VIP guests arrived. Grandparents were invited in to browse the beautiful project displays, spotting their own quotes and stories.

As our guests relaxed with a cuppa and a biscuit, the 2nd class children provided some top-tier entertainment. There was a fantastic turnout, and the hall echoed with beautiful songs, smiles, and perhaps a few happy tears from the audience.

A Huge Thank You!

A massive well done to the 2nd class pupils for being such fantastic researchers, artists, and performers, and to their teacher, Mrs. Kelly, for coordinating such a memorable event.

Most importantly, thank you to all the grandparents who took the time to be interviewed, share their invaluable memories, and join us on Friday. You are a vital part of our school community, and we cherish the wisdom and love you bring to our pupils' lives.
